CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAM

The Continuing Education Program offered by CTAN, Cardiology Technologist Association of Newfoundland Labrador is intended to provide members with a means of demonstrating that they are maintaining a level of competency in the cardiology technology profession.  Units or credits may be acquired from continuing education and other professional activities.  The required units must be accumulated over a three year period (triennium).  Units may be transferred from the first year to the second year and the second year to the third year.  In the final year you may transfer units from the last three months to the new triennium.  All forms and documents are to be submitted to the CEU Coordinator by Dec 31 of each year. At least 10 CEU'S should be acquired each year.

Courses or programs offered by post secondary schools may be evaluated and approved for CEU'S.  Submit course outline anddescription to your CEU Coordinator.

CSCT Specialty Exams and/or practical skill checklist.

Five units each for Exercise Tolerance Testing, Ambulatory Monitoring and Pacemaker Technology.

Units may be obtained from educational activities which are
cardiology related and are assessed at a rate of 1 unit per hr
of participation.  ie: conference, course, seminar, workshop, etc.
Cardiology ward rounds,  in-service, BCLS
Projects-videotape, website article, book review, publishing
a newsletter.

  • Members must submit the following; where applicable
  • A course outline
  • A photocopy of certificate or proof of completion
  • A photocopy of a receipt (conference fee)
  • A photocopy of BCLS identification card
  • Other activities may be logged with appropriate documentation
  • Signature of instructor

PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATION

CSCT Board of Directors or Provincial Education Coordinator -2 units per year.
Canadian/Provincial Committee Chair - 2 units / yr
Provincial Executive member - 1 unit / year
Provincial Committee Member - 1 unit / year

CSCT PRESIDER, PRECEPTOR OR INSTRUCTOR

CSCT Preceptor Workshop---3 units
CSCT Preceptor---2 units per student
CSCT Co-Preceptor---1 unit per student
CSCT Presider (theory exam) ---1 unit per exam
Medical/Nursing/Technician training session---1 unit per hour /
maximum 5 units per year

ATTENDING CSCT / CTAN MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS

CSCT General or Annual Meeting---1 unit per meeting
CTAN General or Annual Meeting---1 unit per meeting


CSCT CEU NON-COMPLIANCE POLICY

At the Oct 2007 Board of Directors meeting, the CSCT Board of Directors presented, discussed, and approved the following CEU non-compliance policy:

Members who have not completed and submitted their CEUS to their provincial CEU coordinator, by the deadline, will be fined $150.  Non-compliant members will have to complete and submit all required CEUS.  If they do not, they will have their membership suspended, and will have to write and pass a reinstatement exam, at a cost of $300.
